You could see that I grew weak
And pain was keeping me from my sleep
So you did what had to be done
Knowing this battle was my last one.

You were sad - I understand-
But you didn't let grief stay your hand
On my last day more than all the rest
Your love for me stood the test.

We’ve had so many happy years
What had to come held no fears.
You didn't want me to suffer so
The time had come to let me go.

You took me where my needs they'd tend
And you stayed with me right to the end.
You held me firm and spoke to me
Until my eyes could no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

I know you grieve that it had to be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
But you cared for me right to the end
By doing the best for your old friend.

We've been so close all these years
So don't tie yourself to me with tears,
But always remember the great times we had
And there will be no reason ever to be sad.

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still – I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still -
in each new dawn
